Uber halts self-driving tests after pedestrian killed in Arizona

A female pedestrian was killed after being struck by an autonomous Uber vehicle in Arizona, according to ABC 15. In response, Uber has pulled all of its self-driving cars from public roads in the state as well as in the cities of San Francisco, Toronto, and Pittsburgh. The crash occurred near Mill Avenue and Curry Road early Monday morning in Tempe, Arizona, police confirm. The Uber vehicle was headed northbound when a woman walking across the street was struck. The woman was taken to the hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Early reports suggested that she may have been a bicyclist, but that was not the case. Police have identified her as 49-year-old Elaine Herzberg. Read More

A new type of electric car will hit the market next year, and rather than the thousands of parts found on a Tesla, it will have less than 100 parts. The two-seater LSEV takes just three days to make, according to the car's manufacturer. The LSEV is produced by XEV Limited, a start-up firm from Hong Kong which has a design center in Italy and production bases in China. It will hit the Asian and European markets first. The Galaxy Note 9 might not have an in-display fingerprint sensor after all

Samsung is apparently no longer looking at using an in-display fingerprint sensor for the Galaxy Note 9, according to a research note from KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, via AppleInsider. Kuo had originally speculated last August that Samsung was looking at the technology for the upcoming Note 9. The company skipped including the feature in the recently released Galaxy S9 models, which featured a more traditional fingerprint sensor on the back of the device. But according to Kuo, Samsung is apparently delaying the feature from this year’s models due to issues with power consumption and the sensors not working reliably with screen protectors or in different environments. Galaxy S9 Plus costs less to build than the flagship iPhone X

The all-new Galaxy S9 Plus costs less to manufacture than Apple’s flagship iPhone X, according to research firm Tech Insights.

Let’s not be foolish, though. Tech Insights publishes an analysis whenever a new flagship ventures onto the market – and we highlight the same thing every time: it’s impossible to predict how much a manufacturer pays for its components.

With that in mind, Tech Insights claims that it costs Samsung $379 (£269) to manufacture a single Galaxy S9 Plus, while competitor Apple forks out $389.50 (£276) for every iPhone X that leaves the production line in Zhengzhou, China.
